I admit, I am surprised.

.

I did not see the memorial service in Tucson or coverage of it until later tonight when it was replayed.  It was a little unnerving at first, I couldn't make sense of the tone of the event.  But when President Obama spoke to those assembled it was clear he had come there to help people heal and to try to emphasize what is important.  People who know me know that I am not a fan.  Ahem.  To say the least.  But I must give props where props are due.  You did good Mr. President.  You showed compassion, wisdom, and leadership tonight, and it was good.  Very good.

His speech was good, but the whole thing seemed more like a pep rally than a memorial service.

It did, and I was kind of weirded out about it. Then I thought ... well maybe it's because it's a college auditorium or something. But today I heard a lot of other people thought the pep rally-ness of it was weird too.
