Dare to know the truth

I don't write about politics on my blog. But to me - this isn't politics. This is my healthcare. This is about somebody telling me that my mom is old enough to accept the conditions that come with age instead of treating them. It is somebody telling me that no, I don't get to choose my doctor or what test I want or how I want to treat my illnesses. We are talking about life and death. This is one issue I am absolutely passionate about and changing our health care system to mirror Canada's or the UK's - scares me to death. Healthcare reform? Yes. National (socialized) medicine? NO!!!!

This is such an important issue for all of us. If you have medical insurance you already have someone telling you what treatment you can and cannot have. The problem is they make money by telling you no.

I understand Obama wanting to do this quickly. Lord, knows the politicians need to be pushed. But isn't there a happy medium. Look at the other things that were rushed.

BetteJo~ I fully share your concern here. I must lovingly disagree w/ Cynthia's assertion which implies that gov't-run healthcare would be essentially no different from insurance.

Insurance companies inform members of what the company will pay for, not what treatments the person may/may not receive...The 'member' may then seek treatment elsewhere, all day long, every day if they CHOOSE to. If the Gov't is the 'single portal of entry' & holds the purse strings on treaments, there will be no choice.

Just this morning, a church friend tells us that he's being seen tomorrow by a Urology specialist b/c his PSA counts are through the roof. Fearing prostate cancer, his Fam. MD scheduled his specialist appt. - last Thurs.

My friend says to me, "This is the strongest case for NO socialized medicine! Thank God, I go to the speciaist tomorrow. If we had soc. med., I'd be holding a lottery ticket in my hand instead of an appointment card."

Bev., the RUSH on this makes it all the more frightening. What's the hurry? Are they afraid somebody might actually read the bill??

Good post, BetteJo.
